Those In the LGBT Community Do Not Need To Be Cured

Chairman Steve Munisteri, apparently believes that homosexuality is some kind of disease that can be cured with therapy. Well, their is not cure for homosexuality because it is the way those in the LGBT community are born. Calling this therapy treatment a "cure" is not only insulting but it is also misleading to those who are still struggling to accept their sexuality. There is no cure for being who you are and all Munisteri is doing is repressing people from being their true selves. The actions that the Republican Party in Texas is taking to "cure" homosexuality is an act of prejudice and should not be acceptable.

Instead of putting so much energy into curing something that is not in any way harming anybody, the Texas Republican Party should consider focusing on actual issues such as discrimination. The problem is not those who have different views and beliefs than our own, the problem lies in the hands of those who treat people that are different with disrespect. Ignorance needs to be stopped, not homosexuality.

I am not saying that homosexuality cannot be cured just because I am personally a supporter of LGBT rights, it has been proven as something impossible to change. Every major medical and mental health organization in the United States has condemned the use of "reparative therapy." All that this therapy does is cause significant medical, psychological, and other kinds of harm to LGBT people.
